2 Know the purpose of managing physical and

   technological resources

4 Be able to interpret financial statements.

Personal learning and thinking skills (PLTS)

These are identified in the square brackets on the grid overleaf; the key identifies which skills should be assessed through each criterion.

Overview of assessment

Learners are assessed by a programme of practical and theoretical assignments set by the centre that cover all of the criteria within the grading grid for this unit on the following page.

P1 describe the recruitment documentation used in a selected organisation
What you have to do:

Using the Walsall Council job site you are to create a PowerPoint presentation.  This will be used to present to sixth form pupils who are confused by the variety of information available to them when seeking jobs:

Walsall Jobs and Careers

  1. Find a job which you feel you are able to understand and describe with confidence.  Do not choose a specific technical role unless you understand that field.

  2. Describe the documentation used and offered.  In your description, explain why the documentation is used, why they include the questions, information and data.  Refer to the documentation constantly, and the role being offered.  Use screenshots where necessary.

Documents you need include and discuss:

  • The advert itself

  • Job description

  • Employee specification

  • Application form

  • Information for Applicants

  • Information available throughout the Walsall website, including the recruitment process.

P2 describe the main employability, personal and communication skills required when applying for a specific job role    Pages 60-63 Textbook

What I have to do

In the document you need to relate the skills required for the job role offered.

Again, relate this to the role and reference any documentation you have read (with screenshots if necessary).

I will expect you to explain what Employability, personal and communication skills are.  you need to explain how these skills are relevant to the role you are examining.  Refer to the guidance below for the specific aspects of the skills.

You may feel that some are NOT relevant to your job role.  If this is the case just say so, whilst fully explaining the others.

Employability skills:

This may include:

  • suitable qualifications; experience in similar role; knowledge of products/services; experience of specific industry; effectiveness in meeting personal and team/departmental targets; ability to observe and raise professional standards of production/service delivery

Personal and communication skills:

This may include:

  • patient; hardworking; able to work as part of a team; good interpersonal skills; cooperating with others eg line managers, colleagues; negotiation eg in seeking agreements, resolving conflicts, agreeing targets, agreeing budgets; interviewing skills

M2 assess the importance of employability, and personal skills in the recruitment and retention of staff in a selected organisation

What I have to do

Using the whole of Walsall Council as your selected organisation.

Assess HOW IMPORTANT employability and personal skills are in the

recruitment and retention of staff.

To assess you are being asked to evaluate the importance of skills and

employability.  Make sure you are relating this to Walsall Council.

To achieve the Merit:

  • Include all the headings from the textbook (Use the pages 60 - 63)

  • Relate to the job at Walsall Council

  • Analyse whether the skills are important?  You could consider what might be the impact of employing someone with (or without the skills).

  • Analyse how important the skills are?

  • Contrast these with another job (of your choice) where that skill may be more, or less important.

You may find it useful to consider other job roles within Walsall Council to make your point, or make a clearer evaluation.  I would expect a successful completion of this Merit task to cover all the skills listed above, and ranked in order of importance, with your reasons.

P3 describe the main physical and technological resources required in the operation of a selected organisation

You will now using Jaguar Land Rover as a case study for this unit.

P3 You are to describe each of the physical and technological resources required in

the operation of Sainsbury's.  You should use the headings provided in your textbook:

Physical

  • Buildings and facilities

  • Materials and Waste

  • Plant and Machinery

  • Equipment including IT

  • Planned maintenance and refurbishment

  • Emergency provision

  • Insurance

  • Security

Technological

  • Intellectual property

  • Accumulated experience and skills

  • Software licences

  • Protection via patents and copyright

M1 explain how the management of human, physical and technological resources can improve the performance of a selected organisation  Pages 64-69

M1  Explain how the EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT of (1) Human, (2) Physical and (3) Technological resources can IMPROVE the PERFORMANCE of your business.

This merit task is therefore an extension of both P3 and P2.

You are being tested on your understanding of the MANAGEMENT of resources (remember the RIGHT time, RIGHT person, RIGHT place etc).  Relate the management to how this will improve the effectiveness, efficiency or profitability of JLR.

What I want you to do.

  1. Find the Aims and objectives of JLR

  2. Decide HOW effective / INeffective management of the three resources                                                               MIGHT have an impact upon achieving those aims / objectives.

  3. Explain your findings, using PIC to achieve the Merit.

TIP:  if you find this a little confusing, consider how the business may react if the management of resources is poor and inadequate.

D1 evaluate how managing resources and controlling budget costs can improve the performance of a business

This tasks requires you to examine all types of resources for businesses.  For that reason you can start this quite soon, having looked at Human, Physical, Technological resources etc

Support:  For D1, learners should assess the relative merits of the methods of the managing resources and to make judgements on the effectiveness of these methods in improving the performance of the selected business

Use JJSDR

You will need to evaluate Human, Physical, Technological and Financial Resources.

Year 12's have NOT covered Financial cots at this stage but they can cover the first three, returning to finance at the end.

Pages in the text book - the whole of the first section, ending at page 69.
